There has to be something for the concept of subliminal messages. Well, perhaps it's more simply put as associations.  For instance, My partner and I just scored, on this wet rainy Brisvegas night. I have the shot, come downstairs and put on a song...Patti Smith, Dancing Barefoot. And before I know it, she's crooning about heroin. At a conscious level I planned none of the song choice. But obviously my brain knew what to do. Thank allah for the subconscious, I say.

I'm dancing barefoot
heading for a spin
some strange music draws me in
makes me come on like some heroin/e

The existence of the '/e' at the end owes more to prurience (is that the word?) than it does to misinterpretations. I see no ambiguity, and I'm pretty open to ambiguity.
Many covers exist, too many for me to mention here. I'll leave it up to wikipedia's collective unconscious.
