With a name like this it is de riguer it be first on this catalogue. Coming from the scene around Andy Warhol and the Factory in 1964 (released in '67) put the Velvets firmly in the mould of freaks and their songs alluding to drug use added to the myth but afficionados of the band are usually captivated as much by the lyrical, melodic and joyful qualities of the music as well as the direct, witty, sardonic and schmaltzy lyrics.
In an interview Lou claimed the band stopped doing the song and there's an exchange with someone in the crowd of 'Live At Max's' which corroborates this. In the interview he claimed to be annoyed by so many people telling him the song turned them onto heroin but as ridiculous as this is the versions done by the Velvets easily stand the test of time to make it a wonderful live song and loaded with the attitude born of telling the truth in the face of lies.
